4-colour process
The four basic colours of cyan (blue), magenta (red), yellow and black are combined to reproduce a printed colour image

Blind Embossing
The technique whereby an image is pressed into a sheet without using ink or foil

Camera-ready artwork
Black and white artwork which can be scanned or photographically reproduced

Digitising
Two-dimensional artwork is converted into thread or stitches ready for embroidering

Dye Sublimation
A thermal process for imprinting using heat-activated organic dyes to achieve vibrant colours

Download
Copying data or files between computers or onto a disk

Embossing
An image is pressed into paper or other material to produce a raised effect

Embroidery
Traditional method for reproducing a logo, crest or message by stitching a digitised design into fabric, resulting in a high perceived value

Engraving
An image is carved into metal via a computer or by hand

EPS File
Encapsulated Postscript (EPS) files are used to capture precise image and text information

Font
A specific typeface and type size, measured in points

Imprint Area
The particular area on a bag where the logo or design is to be placed

Pantone Matching System (PMS)
A set of industry standard codes for mixing inks to achieve uniform results

Personalisation
Customising an item for an individual by imprinting the recipient’s name

Pre-production sample
An actual sample of the bag which, if requested, can show an imprint of the logo or design as it will appear on the finished article

Production (or lead) time
The amount of time needed to produce and deliver an order, following final signoff

Screen printing (or silk screening)
Printing method that forces ink through a mesh fabric and a stencilled screen

Set-up charge
The cost of creating any of the special equipment or imprinting tools, which is passed on to the customer.
